Many unions, platforms and organisations from Turkey responded to Turkish Cypriots’ call for solidarity by organising demonstrations and publishing manifestos. Turkey is trying to do its hardest in silencing the Turkish Cypriots living in the Turkish occupied part of Cyprus and is using its colonial governors for this task.
We are asking Turkey – who is trying to show Cypriots as an ungrateful people, living with the money donated by Turkey- the following. If you have always been so keen on donating someone money, why were you not this much generous to the Turkish workers, toilers and retired. Why did you see them worthy of your worse Labour Reforms? We know you and we know that you wouldn’t grant anyone a single penny unless you had some sort of ambition. Cyprus is your black market. Why don’t you give the account of the money you gain from the casinos, the banks and the plundered Greek Cypriot lands.
Cyprus, which was divided by the Turkish and Greek counter-guerrilla on the orders of the bosses of the British and the American imperialism and which is under the partial occupation of Turkey, is now a place, ruined by the crisis of both the local and the foreign bourgeoisies and the civil-military bureaucrats. The Fate of Cypriots is being decided not by themselves, but by everyone else. Recep Tayyip Erdogan explained Turkey’s colonial and warmonger motives with this sentence: “We have strategic reasons for being there, just as Greece has.”
On 28th of January, the Turkish Cypriots expressed themselves through a mass demonstration. The workers and the civil servants once again unleashed the course of history. These demonstrators demanded Turkey’s hands off Cyprus and naturally they were opposed and attacked by the state of Turkey and the local fascists. However the Turkish Cypriots are not alone, they have the support of the internationalist groups elsewhere. The internationalists everywhere, particularly in Turkey, stand beside the Cypriots against the attacks of the Turkish state. In Germany and the UK, they took to streets to show their solidarity.
In a time when AKP is trying to impose its version of “democracy” upon the students, the Kurdish people and the workers, we stand beside our class brothers and the Kurdish people. In fact we belong to the working classes of Turkey and the Kurdish people, who share the wrath of the same neo-liberal attacks. Therefore we call for the unification of our struggles.
On 2nd of March a new general strike is going to take place. The workers and the toilers of Cyprus trust their class brothers in Turkey and in the whole world. Our just struggle and the slogan for ending humiliation will be enhanced by your local support!
Long live the international solidarity of the proletariat!
Cyprus belongs to Cypriots!
Turkey take your dirty hands off the working classes of Cyprus and Turkey!
Let’s raise the banners of our struggle on 2nd of March !
Colonist Turkey out of Cyprus !
